Getting started
How Tortoiz Themes documentation works, how to get your files, and where to go next.
Welcome. These guides apply to every Tortoiz theme. Each theme also has its own section with its setup steps and settings.
Get your files
Paid themes are delivered by Lemon Squeezy. Your download link is in your purchase email and in your Lemon Squeezy orders.
Download the zip, unzip it, and open the folder in your code editor.
What you need
- A code editor. Any editor works. VS Code is a good free choice.
- The tools for your theme. Astro and Hugo themes need Node.js. Your theme’s own guide lists the exact version.
- A terminal. You only need a few commands, and each guide tells you which ones.
Next steps
- Open your theme’s guide from the documentation home.
- Follow its Getting started page to run the site on your computer.
- Read Licensing if you’re building for a client.
Jekyll on Ruby 3.4
If a Jekyll theme stops with cannot load such file -- csv, your Ruby version no longer includes a few files that Jekyll 4.3 needs. Add these lines to the theme’s Gemfile:
gem "csv"
gem "base64"
gem "bigdecimal"
Then run bundle install and build the site again.
